DAY 1
Pick up from the airport to hotel
The tour begins at the airport, where you meet with your guide. If time permits us we will do short introductory Birding along the way to your hotel (for road side pickings) and also a walk around your hotel.
DAY 2
Dakar to St Louis
Pick up from your hotel, we will be Birding a full day around Dakar to St Louis. A mixture of open arid savannah woodland and wetland. Expected species here are. Vinaceous Dove. Blue naped Mousebird. Western red Hornbill. Long tailed glossy starling. Abyssinian Roller. Little gray
Woodpecker. Senegal Batis. Pygmy Sunbird. Yellow crowned Gonelek. White backed Vulture. Ruppells. Griffon Vulture. Lappet faced Vulture. African Tern. Red billed tropicbird. Northern Garnet. Brown Booby etc.
DAY 3/4
Podor on the edge of the Sahara Desert
A two nights stay: Birding extensively around Richard Toll, the greater Senegal river valley with a mixture of dry woodland, scrub thicket and sandy dune field. For the most sought after Birds in the region namely: Black scrub Robin. Sudan golden sparrow. Chestnut bellied starling. Golden nightjar. Cricket Warbler. Black scimitarbill. Sennar penduline Tit. Fulvous Babbler. Little gray woodpecker etc.
DAY 5
Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary
Djoudj is a UNESCO World Heritage site, situated in the Senegal River delta. The sanctuary is a Wetland of 16,00 ha. Composed of a large Lake surrounded by streams, Pounds and Backwater, it forms a living but fragile sanctuary for some 1,5 million birds, most of which are migrant birds and many Overwinters here. Ist also serves as an important Breeding ground for many wetland species. Among the species seen here are: fulvous Whistling Duck. White Faced Whistling Duck. Northern Shoveler. Northern Pintail. Arabian Bustard. Black Crowned Crane. African Jacana. Snips. Crakes. Greater/ Lesser Flamingo. River Prinia. Greater/ Pink backed Pelican.
DAY 6
Bustards and Quail Plover
We will be spending our day in search of Black/White Bellied Bustard. Saviles Bustard. Quail Plover etc.
DAY 7/8
Sine-Saloum Delta
A two-night stay in Kaolack and Toubakuta, famous for their 100s of roosting and breeding Swallow tailed Kite. Falcons. Kestrels. White backed night Heron. White crested Tiger Heron. Stone patridge. Dainty Lavender waxbill. Senegal Parrot. African scops Owl. Pearl spotted Owlet. Northern Crombeck. Greater/ Lesser honeyguide. Fine spotted/ Brown backed woodpecker. Hamerkop. Four banded/ Chestnut bellied Sandgrouse. Yellow Penduline Tit. Common ChiffChaff. And
a vast array of Cisticolas and Warblers.
DAY 9/10
Wassadou
The drive to Wassadou will be punctuated by stops at various places where there will be the opportunity to see different birds in a variety of habitats, with an overnight stay.
DAY 11
Niokolo Koba National Park
Niokolo Koba is a World heritage site and a natural protected area southeastern Senegal near Guinea border. Along the bank of Gambia River, the gallery forest and savannah of Niokolo koba National Park have a very rich Fauna among them is the (Derby Eland) largest of the Antelope. Chimpanzees. Lions. Leopards and a large population of Elephants, as well as Birds. Reptiles and Amphibians.
Expected bird species seen here are: Pearl Fishing Owl. African Finfoot. Shining Blue Kingfisher. Egyptian Plover. Adamawa Turtle Dove. Swamp Flycatcher. Violet/ Green Turaco. etc.
DAY 12
Kedougou
We will be Birding around Kedougou, famous for Raptors. Buzzards. Plovers and Bee eaters.
DAY 13
Dindefelo
Dindefello never disappoints when it comes to Fox kestrels. Sahel Paradise Whydah. Narina Trogon. Mali Firefinch. Willcocks Honey guide. Neumanns Starling. Sun Lark. Yellow Bellied Hyliota. Dybowski Twinspot. Western violet backed Sunbird. Chestnut crowned sparrow Weaver etc.
DAY 14
Tambacounda
Our last day in the region will be a drive through Tambacounda to our overnight stay in Mbour near
the Airport. Tambacounda is the largest city in eastern Senegal, 40km from Dakar. On our way we are going to stop at various important places for Birds like Abbyssinian ground Hornbill. Bronze winged Courser. Spotted Thick knee etc.
DAY 15
Mbour
We will be Birding near to your hotel surrounding, for any missing birds before your departure.
